Storage -- the need, the invention, the continuation..

The need for storage came into picture from the Servers which could hold a specific number of HDDs or Data Storing repositoris. Now, this need gave the way to storage which was not interal but external to the box, but connected directly to the Server to increase the capcity of box. This added few numbers of HDDs to the server to give it a shape, the name given by the industry - JBoD, Just a Bunch of Disks. Once the need comes, it follows with invention and then we need luxury on the same. This basic concept gave the way to Networked Storage i.e. Sharing of that storage to multiple servers giving few basic technologies which we know by NAS and SANs. Through new technologies comes new challenges which are mitigated through R&D and further developments. Network storage came up with few fundamentals challenges - performance, security and reliability. Over the times with technology improvement, the challanges are improved and new technologies are evolved..
